The story is based around Buckaroo Banzai [neurosurgeon, guitarist and all round god] who, in an attempt to travel to a different dimension, brings the earth into the cross fire of another race. Can Buckaroo Banzai and the Hong Kong Cavaliers save the day?
Duh.
The story and concept is good, but the whole thing is a little out-dated and slightly cheesy, being made sometime in the 1980′s, but if you take out the bad acting, special effects and hair, it could be quite good. The female lead is good as well, not managing to piss me off with her complete ineptness as in many other 80′s films, as she is smart and not once does she say ‘Oh help me, Buckaroo Banzai!’
I give this 
1/2, because, despite the bad acting, SFX and hair, I quite enjoyed this film.
