Polar Express

Year: 2004
Genre: Childrens’/ Animation/ Adventure/ Fantasy

This film is about a little boy who doubts whether Santa actually exists, and on Christmas Eve is taken by steam train on a magical adventure to see Santa at the north pole.

I quite like this film. It has the classical elements of a feel-good Christmas story, with singing and dancing, newly forged friendships, more unusually a train, and a small child overcoming numerous adversities to live happily ever after. Okay, well it’s not quite that clichéd, but very close. Even so, it’s a good enjoyable family film.
I give it 3/5

Jobs

1. Would you rather have a fun job that doesn’t pay well or a boring job that does?

Fun that pays poorly. It’s what I’m doing atm ;)

2. Would you sacrifice your morals for a job?

Never

3. Would you ever take a job that requires you to be in costume?

Maybe. It depends on what job it was. If it was as an entertainer and the costume wasn’t too silly then sure, but if it was advertising then no

4. What is your fantasy job?

Writer

5. Would you like fries with that?

Thank you, very kind of you. Wait… Do I have to pay? Then no ta :)

Culture and Romance and Herbs

So, this would be the obligatory ‘Valentine’s Day’ post then. Well, Darkliquid/ Andy and I did nothing. Well, he fixed some stuff to do with our new server, and I wrote stuff. Yay for dead romance. Not :(

So Tuesday, cuz I had to go out anyway I stopped off at TESCO and bought strawberries and cream [pour homme] and Asti Spumanti [pour femme]. [Asti is only 7% but the fact that I drank the whole bottle myself may go some way to explaining my headache and queasiness. But it was nice :) ] and when I got back we ate them together and had snuggles :D *love* :D
And then today we went into B’mouth, and [after analysing their corporate image and deciding the only good thing about MacDonald's is the free coffee] we passed a flower stall in the square.
‘Oh look,’ says I. ‘Roses’
[We stop and look at the bunches]
‘I suppose that means you want one?’ Says the ever observant he.
‘Only if you want to get me them.’ Says I, the very picture of undemanding innocence.
[He gives me one of those long, 'I know what you're playing at, and damn you it going to work' looks]
‘So that’s a yes them?’ Says he. I love my Fiance, he’s so well trained :D *kisses and hugs*
So now I have pretty Roses :D :D

Roses

So that’s Romance dealt with. On to Culture.

It’s not really a big thing, but when I was out Tuesday, I saw what I think is one of the best things I’ve seen in a long time. Sure graffiti is supposed to be inherently bad, but on an underpass I saw scrawled in cyan spray paint ‘RIP John Peel’. John Peel was a great man. [Again, I didn't have my camera with me, though I might go back and try record it.]

And now for Herbs.

I was watching a thing about the Magic Roundabout tonight, and they had an extract from the Herbs on there. I never actually realised how much Andy is like Parsley the Lion, until the narrator asked Parsley a question to which the lion nodded vigorously in such a way that it reminded me so much for Andy :)
And I have found a rather cool new book that I can’t seem to buy anywhere other than this one ‘Spiritualist’ shop :(

Well, that has been my life upto date I believe. Love to all :)

Update

I really should find another way of saying ‘update’…

Work: All better now. I am now a convert to the Honeywell Lean one-piece-flow way of doing things. Frank would be proud *smirk* Even the presentation we had to do in front of the uber bosses went okay. Many of them said I did really well, and the super-uber-runs-the-plant boss said ‘you where really good; you can do my next quarterly financial presentation’. Still no news about whether I’m being made permanent or not.

Cosplay/ MCM Expo: Is this weekend. In fact, we are leaving at 1744 today. Costume all done. Wish I had had time to put some kind of weights in the font tabard part of the dress though. I think Barry and Daniel’s costumes are done. I’m taking my camera and spare batteries with me, so you can be sure of many pictures when I get back :) All packed, ready to go, very excited.

Exercise: Has kind of ground to a halt. I’m not even doing my stretches, which is probably why by entire back hurts.

Writing/ ICS course: Got three modules left to do [as in read and submit] and one paper to finish. Having a little trouble with the most recent paper; my story sort of lacks my usual je ne sais quoi and is 170 words over the limit, but I’m sure it’ll be okay. Also, I’ve signed up for NaNoWriMo, though I’ve no idea what to do.

Website development: Can’t be bothered to make a fancy layout or fix all the issues with my site, so I just butchered it and presented what was left. Work on the Brownsea island site has also ground to a halt, but that’s because I was trying to focus on the costume.

Mates: Ignoring them for the most part; just been far to busy. Might have a LAN party soon though.

Andy: Is still Andy :) He’s enjoying his work, enjoying getting paid, enjoying me ;) Things are floating along okay. Looking into joint savings accounts, mortgages and houses.

Things I’ve done recently: Saw Serenity with bunch of people, met two cute seemingly geeky girls in the loo, failed to ask for their names or numbers [Such a ditz I am]. Movie is excellent.
Went to the Kingston Lacy Enchanted Gardens thing again, and again was very cool :)
Sure I’ve done more, but I can’t remember.

GMing: Going better. Dropped the characters into a dungeon, gave them Gibbits to play with as well as pretties. They still haven’t made it to the bloody mountains yet though…

Christmas Presents: Got Mum, Alex and Andy’s; half Dad and Kat’s; Greg, Jade, Major, other half of Kat’s on order; no one else’s.

Can’t think of anything else. Expect a huge entry about the weekend :) Love

‘You have really nice teeth’

I’ve just been to the dentist for a check-up, and I have to say I’m very relived. I’ve had quite a bit of work done on my teeth over the years and I was starting to wonder if I’d somehow inherited bad teeth and gums from my father. Fortunatly for me, this time I was in and out in uder 15 mins, suffering through only a minor scrub and polish. As I was leaving the dentist said, ‘You have really good teeth. The best in your family. Always have.’

That makes me very very happy :D :D :D

Blog for Choice Day - January 22, 2007

The website says I’m supposed to let y’all know why I’m pro-choice on the aspect of abortion, so here goes.

Simply put, I belive in choice. I belive that, as long as I’m not hurting anyone else, no one should be able to tell me how to dress or how to act or what I can and can’t put in my body or how I write or what I think or how I treat my body.

I belive that neither the goverment or a religious institution that I don’t even subscribe to has the right to tell me how I should treat my body. If I got pregant tomorrow, I would want an abortion, because right now I am not mentaly prepared nor am I finatially able to have a child right now. I feel that is my choice to make and no one should force me to carry the child through to term. I don’t belive that anyone else has a right to my body or to what happens to it.

People can make suggestions, offer advice, but ultimatly no one but me has the final say in what happens to the flsh and bones, molecules and protines that make up my body.

I think every woman should have this same freedom. And I think it’s a crime against humanity that they don’t.

That’s why I’m writing this blog post and that’s why I belive and would fight for my right to choose what happens to my body.
