Ramblings of a Disorientated Mind

The ramblings, and occasional sanities, of a 20-something geekess from the UK

I quite like this E-Petitions thing

This site is basically where you can sign petions online. From the site: “The e-petition service is within its remit to build websites which give people simple, tangible benefits in the civic and community aspects of their lives”

I’m a very strong beliver in the whole making yourself heard about things you blive in, but I’m terminally lazy, so this site is perfect. I’ve already signed several:

* To remove VAT from environmentally friendly products.

* Encourage the reduction of household waste by requiring producers to pay for the disposal costs of their products and packaging

* Scrap the £12 billion road building programme and invest the money in alternative transport

* Create areas of the seas around Britain where all commercial fishing is banned for ten years to allow stocks to recover

* Tax energy inefficient light bulbs

* Make software patents clearly unenforcible

* Review VAT on energy efficiency products and services

* Fast track global climate change policy

* Treat climate change as a national emergency

* Ban the use of new materials in the manufacturing of disposeable carrier bags, and used recyled materials instead

* Introduce tax breaks to encourage the adoption of bio-fuels

Okay, so they’re all environmental things atm, but I’m going off to sign some more :)

EDIT: I’ve signed a couple more:

* Reduce or take away benefit from people who show no itention of working

* provide subsidised courses for thousands of young people who have been failed by the Education system.

* Put in place guidelines to stop Homophobic bullying.

* ban non-residents parking near schools

* Introduce the teaching of British Sign Language in all UK schools.

* Abolish all faith schools.

* reform of the Sex Education delivered in schools.

* cease the creation of more faith schools, take existing public-funded faith schools from the control of religious bodies and convert them to unbiased schools for all.

* Increase funding for extra curricular activities in schools like music, art and sports.

* prevent the use of creationist and other pseudo-scientific propaganda in Government-funded schools.

* Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) a foundation subject in all primary and secondary schools

* Abolish all faith schools and prohibit the teaching of creationism and other religious mythology in all UK schools

I’ve also signed a lot more but I can’t be bothered to list them all.

Animal Activity

1. Do you have any pets? If so, how many, and what are their names?

Nope. Unless you count Andy ;)

2. What was your very first pet? Do you remember its name?

Some kind of fish. I don’t recall if it had a name.

3. Is there an animal you would never have as a pet?

Spiders.

4. What common pet have you always wanted but never had? Why not?

Ferret or a dog. Either my parenbts wouldn’t let me or I was allergic to it.

5. What wild animal (extinct or not) would you own if you didn’t have to worry about its adjustment or the cost of captivity?

After reading the Thursday Next series I’d quite like a dodo, but other than that a monkey I think.
