Wow, what a session
Last night’s DnD was an excellent end to a very long running campaign – we killed the bad guy, got the loot, I became the Emissary of Gregism and a woodling again.
Xagor – effectively my arch nemesis – has been brought back in one form or another 3 times now, and this last time, waged a personal war against me for helping kill him the twice times before. In this last session: the team snuck into a pocket hell dimension, cleaved our way through hoards of seeker demons to a temple where we found him. One surprisingly short battle later [our heartfelt thanks to the two Xorns that reduced his spell casting to zilch] he was dead – squished into Xagor patty, burned with holy water, soul dissipated to hell – and we were running like fuck as the pocket dimension collapsed around us.
Alexis 3, Xagor 1: The first time it was just a job; the second time it was personal; the third time it was really personal.
So then Greg dished out XP and we all leveled up, Ian and Kat left and then I had a fantastic idea: If I pray to my ever loving god, would he grant my form changed?
Quick note of explanation here. The Game Master is nearly always referred to as ‘god’, since s/he is running the game and can do almost anything. For a long time now, I’ve taken this one step further – I invoke who ever is GMing as my god: ‘for god’s sake’ = ‘for Greg’s sake’. This time however I made it official and wrote on my sheet that my religion was Gregism and everyone ran with it: when I died it was Greg who met me in the celestial waiting room and then told me he was sending me back as an owl because it wasn’t my time, when we needed something I prayed to Greg and Greg delivered.
Anyway.
So, with some help I made an alter. I placed on it sweet baked goodies, and an effigy of the Fonz, and I prayed long and eloquently for my body to be returned to me since I’d been such a good little worshiper and defeated Xagor. And lo! a light shone down and we did follow it and came to the hovel of a most powerful wizard and I got my woodling form back [as well as 500xp for good roleplaying]!
Course, I’ve now to go shopping for a whole new wardrobe, amour and set of weapons and utilities but it’s not like I can’t afford it.
So now that campaign is ended, we’re taking a break from the game and doing shadowrun instead, but I can’t help wondering what will happen to my little Alexis. She’s been through so much: died twice, been turned from a woodling to an owl and back, rid the world of Xagor’s scourge, seen a lot of good friends die, be resurrected and had to kill again. Maybe she’ll go back to the Forest of Night, and stay with her own kind for a while. Maybe she’ll stay in Tourigaurd and take ale with the townspeople. Maybe she and the group will head out to search for more adventure. Whatever she does, I can guarantee she’s going to be getting into trouble
