(Apologies to The Buggies)
Ever since I got a twitter and pixlepipe account I’ve been blogging much less. This has been noted by a couple of people I know, both separately and within quick succession of each other. Even though I now have a smart phone which theoretically allows me to post full blogs, not just tweets/ facebook updates, on the go I never do.
Why is this?
Partly I think it has something to do with the immediacy of microblogging. Short thoughts can be communicated instantly and to a wide audience. Blogging takes time, care and effort, and even then you have to wait for people to visit your site or check their syndication feeds and then they are unlikely to leave a comment.
Partly I think it’s laziness on behalf of the blogger. So many times I’ve started a post and left it half way through for some reason, either due to getting distracted or running out of steam, but mostly it’s the ego fear: I have no right/who’d want to read this/ it’s naff etc. Which I guess brings us back to the immediacy of microblogging – 140 characters doesn’t leave a lot of room for doubts.
So does this mean I’ll stop tweeting? Probably not. But I will try to keep this blog a little more updated, let you all in on what’s actually happening in my life, maybe try and get back into writing non-fiction articles again.
Faithful readers, watch this space
