Strange dream is strange

“Just a little furthur,” I shouted at the woman running in front of me. She glanced back and I saw the fear on her dirt and tear stained face. “Keep going!” I yelled at her again. Behind me I could hear the heavy, metalic steps of our adversaries. I glanced back, aimed my rifle in the general direction of the robots and fired, the auto-fire spewing out brass like a frat boy the morning after a night before. Missiles, grenades, bullets; whatever rained down around us in response, throwing up dirt and concrete. The chopper was so close I could hear the shouting of my troops and the thrum of the rota blades. I fired behind me again, trying to give the enemy pause and allowing us to gain some ground.

There was a scream. I turned back to see her, the woman scientist I’d been sent to rescue, being plowed into by a mechanis. She dropped the case she was carrying, and it split open, spilling papers everywhere.
“Noooo!” I yelled, aiming at the thing, but it just turned it’s metalic back on me, and my bullets bounced off, bearly scratching it’s painwork. With the woman in one hydrolic hand, it reached out and began to scale a nearby building. I ran after, bullets taking of chunks of brick. Just as I reached the spilled papers, it opened a pair of wings and took to the sky.
“Dammit!” I yelled as I fired.
“Comander!” Came a staticy voice through my comm unit. I glanced behind. The other war units were fast approching me. I grabbed at the papers, managing to lift a couple of manilla files before taking to my heels again. As I ran I stuffed them down my top, and slung my weapon crosswise over my torso, freeing up my hands. But I didn’t bother trying to shoot behind me anymore. I dove into a full out sprint, trusing my men to cover me. I could see the chopper starting to lift off.
“Commander!” On of my men shouted. I dregdged up more speed and ran full pelt to the helio, reaching just as it acsended to head hight. I jumped, caught the bottom of the landing strut, held on for dear life as someone inside shouted “She’s on. Go, go, go!”
The chopper began to gain in hight, and I reached for the edge of the door. Just then an explosion shook the helio. I yelled out as I lost my grip. But my fall was arrested. I glanced up.
“I got ya Fre,” said Apollo, grinning down at me. I remembered to breath again and grinned back. There was a sliding sensation on my chest. I looked down, suddenly recalling the papers. The folder was starting to slip out of my jacket.
“Shit,” I muttered. I couldn’t loose those as well as the Prof. Apollo was starting to haul me up and I gripped the bottom of the door with one hand, while the other I let go of Apollo and pulled out the folders. I slapped them down on the floor of the helio.
“Put these someplace safe,” I ordered. Apollo nodded and passed them to Hermies. I didn’t see what he did with them – I was trying to get my feet under me and into the chopper properly. I did so, and pushed up just as Apollo grabbed my flack vest and dragged me into the helio, sliding the door shut behind me.

I lay there a second or two, getting my wind back, before the pilot glanced back at me.
“What now sir?” He asked.
“What d’you think?” I growled, sitting up. “Get after that flying monstrosity and let’s get our girl back.”

A Weaver is Me

On a hot day in July, I was present to celebrate one of Poole’s heros, Harry Paye. I celebrated by hanging around a bunch of vikings.

They seemed pretty cool, so I asked if I could join them and they told me I needed a trade. At the time all I could answer was: I can cook, sorta…

I’ve been thinking about this for a while now, but it was only when I got my peg loom that I realized I am a weaver.

Ever since I was little I’ve been fascinated by looms, dyes and the various trapping of turning sheep fluff into useable yarn and cloth. As far back as I can recall my family have always been knitting, or sewing or crocheting or whathaveyou. I don’t even remember how I got started making lace but I do know I’ve been doing it for yonks and yonks.

But that was as far as it ever seemed to go. It didn’t matter how longingly I staired at the spinning wheel we inexplicaply had on display at my first school, I never got around to real weaving untill recently, when I got my peg loom.

To be honest, I’m not much cop at any of these, but I like to think that, when the appocolipse has wiped most of us out, I’ll be kept around because I have a Trade.

Making the Change

So you may have noticed things are looking a little different around here. For instance, five blogs have now become one. The theme has certainly changed; green to pale orange is pretty unmissable.

But most of the changes will not been seen by you, my dear readers. They are, as they say, under the bonnet.

The very observant among you might even have noticed the absence of the usual ’b2Evolution’ logo, to be replaced by a ‘wordpress’ one. Yes, that’s right. I’ve finally changed my blogging software.

Don’t get me wrong, I really liked b2Evo, but WP is just so much better. It’s more intuitive, easier, slicker and, most important to me, has a working akismet plug-in. No more trailing through referral and comment pages, weeding out the spam by hand, it’s all automated :)

This probably doesn’t mean that much to you who read these posts, but it makes a hella lot of difference to me. And less time weeding out spam mean I have more time to actually devote to writing posts!

… I mean, don’t hold ya breath or anything, but there might be more regular updates in the cards ;) So take a look around, rediscover content, update your rss feeds and stay tuned :)

Not dead, just busy

I’ve just noticed it’s been over a month since I did a proper blog update. I’m sorry. I’d say it won’t ever happen again, but we both know I’d be lying.

I’ve been hella busy lately. Radio, crafts, work, writing, more radio, husband, house, minecraft, baby-making, did I mention radio?

But I have made a few blog posts on other people’s blogs:
The Peg Loom over at Ashye’s blog cuz she was sick
and
Germ Genocide for Faltarego as a swap for writing for the g3 blog.

I’m sure at some point I’ll be able to do a proper update here, and I have a couple of regular blog post type thoughts percolating. So for the moment, sit tight okay? I’ll get back to you at some point in the not too distant future. That at least I can promise. Till then you’ll just have to follow me on twitter or something.

Tweet clouds

I rediscovered this app for twitter a just now and I thought it would be interesting to show what my top 20 tweeted words between March 2009-2010, and March 2010-2011 were and then compare how my word usage had changed.

This is the 2009-2010 cloud:

And this is the 2010-2011 cloud:

First impressions are the writing has taken more of a back seat to things like sleeping, love, and posting epic thing, but time is still important to me, as is thanking people and doing things.

I’m kinda sad that writing doesn’t seem to be as important to me, so that might be something to rectify :)

If nothing else this provides an interesting snap-shot of my life in those two years :)
